Creatine and Creatinine Testing in Dietary Supplements: Addressing Challenges with a Validated HPLC-UV Method

Originally Recorded on August 6, 2025

Creatine is among the most popular and extensively studied sports nutrition supplements, recognized for its proven ability to enhance strength, muscle mass, and performance in high-intensity, short-duration activities. Accurate determination of creatine and its degradation product, creatinine, in raw materials and finished products is essential for quality control and regulatory compliance.

This webinar will provide an overview of best practices in HPLC creatine and creatinine testing in diverse range of products, including protein powders, pre-workout formulations, beverages, and gummies. Common analytical challenges and crucial factors affecting the accuracy of the reported results, including creatine form, sample size, solubility, and analyte stability in standards and sample extracts, will be discussed. Performance of the internal Eurofins Food Chemistry Testing Madison, Inc. method will be assessed against AOAC International acceptance criteria.

Highlights

  • Gain insight into creatine and creatinine HPLC testing workflow.

  • Learn how to address common analytical challenges, avoid pitfalls and ensure obtaining accurate results representative of the test material.

  • Understand the importance of a thorough validation process and acceptance criteria setup to ensure the creatine test method is scientifically valid and fit-for-purpose.
