Clean-In-Place (CIP) chemicals are a critical component of consumer safety in food, beverage, cosmetics, and pharmaceutical production. As compared to manual cleaning, the CIP process significantly improves efficiency by reducing down time and labor.

However, issues during the process, such as insufficient rinsing, can lead to the contamination of products, resulting in quality and/or safety concerns. For example, residual cleaner can lead to ‘chemical-like’ off flavors or changes to pH which can impact product texture.

Our approach to CIP contamination analysis is tailored to the chemical(s) of concern and can range from pH/acidity, anion/cation analysis, to full custom method development using approaches such as chromatographic methods coupled with mass spectrometry to look for trace levels of cleaners through targeting specific ingredients (e.g., surfactants, chelators, etc.).

This webinar will cover various strategies for the detection of CIP chemicals in foods, beverages, and related products, alongside real-world case studies to demonstrate the process in action.

Dr. Jamie Willems

Jamie Willems

Specialty Testing Manager, Eurofins SFA

Dr. Jamie Willems received her Ph.D. in food chemistry from the University of Saskatchewan and currently works as the Manager of Special Analysis at Eurofins SFA Laboratories in New Berlin, Wisconsin. She specializes in various gas and liquid chromatographic techniques (HPLC-PDA, HPLC-MS, HPAE-PAD, GC-FID, GC-MS) and has experience with custom method transfers, method development, suitability studies, method validation and flavor/fragrance analysis.

Anna Wurz

Anna Wurz

Technical Project Manager, Eurofins SFA

Anna Wurz has a BS in biochemistry from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and a PhD in biological chemistry from East Carolina University where her research focused on optogenetic protein regulation. Getting her start in analytical testing in the pharmaceutical industry, she transitioned to vitamins and carotenoids in foods, supplements, and biologics and is currently a technical project manager at Eurofins SF Analytical in New Berlin, WI.
